Swiggy COO Vivek Sunder to step down, CEO Majety takes over role

Mumbai: Swiggy’s chief operating officer Vivek Sundar will be leaving the food delivery company, the company’s chief executive announced in an email on Wednesday. ET has seen a copy of the email.

Sriharsha Majety, Swiggy’s co-founder and chief executive, wrote in an email to the team that Sunder, who was overseeing the company’s food delivery business, has decided to pursue interests “outside of Swiggy” and will leave the company by October. Majety will take over Sunder’s role.

“I will be directly overseeing the marketplace business with immediate effect,” Majety wrote. “We have been discussing this for a while now, and over the course of the past few weeks, have been planning the way forward as well.”

Sunder joined the company three years ago and has overseen its expansion to over 500 cities. “He also played a key role in holding the fort in our on-ground operations during the Covid lockdown phases,” Majety wrote.

He added that Sunder played a key role in the company’s strategic moves on supply and operations and “infusing large organisation thinking in the company with a constant focus on scalability”.

Swiggy is in the midst of closing a $450 million funding round from SoftBank Vision Fund II, which ET
reported on April 16. Earlier in June, the fund
sought approval from India’s anti-monopoly watchdog to invest in the company.
